Glass Orchids moved to Frankfort, Maine in August 2002. Our new farm is named WinterRose Farm but our business name will not change.
In the picture above you see our house (pre-reconstruction), barn, garage and horse stable as well as a view of the hay fields and woods behind. Where the heck is Frankfort, ME? Well, it's about half way between Bangor and Belfast and 25 minutes from each. It's about 1.5 hours northeastish from Augusta. Bar Harbor is about an hour or so from our farm depending on the season (and number of tourists). Why did we move? We lived in New York most of our lives, in NYC and on Long Island. We were born and raised here, went to school (for the most part) here, worked here, got married here, bought our first house here and had our first child here. We came to a point in our lives where we wanted a better quality of life for our little family. We wanted more open space between us and our neighbors, more land, fresher air, less traffic, more nature, fewer people and some peace and quiet. AND, I've got a barn for my studio! Greg and I both climbed corporate ladders in the technology field. We both obtained our goals of the corner office only to find that once we had fulfilled our dreams they were empty and the price was far too high. During the struggle to achieve success, our goals and aspirations had changed without our realizing it. So we began to work on new goals and new dreams. I quit my job and began Glass Orchids. We traveled around the country looking for a place to settle. We looked in NC, TX and FLA. Finally, we found and bought our farmhouse and began having it renovated. We took the big plunge in August of 2002 and are in Maine full time now. Since our move a bit over a year ago, we started UGotGlass.com where we sell a full line of fusing and jewelry supplies. You can still find us! Our email address and URL will not change. Our toll free number has been redirected to our new Maine number.
